420

This popular term was coined in 1971 by kids attending San Rafael high school in southern California. Generally, this slang term is used to accredit marijuana or cannabis use in general. 420 refers to 20th April (4/20), celebrated as an informal “weed holiday”. It can also be referred to the time of a day (4:20) used by weed enthusiasts to meet up and smoke/vape.

710

This slang is quite similar to 420. It specifically refers to those who use dabs and other similar concentrates.

"In marijuana culture, dabbing is a dangerous process of consuming a high concentration of tetrahydrocannabinol(THC). THC is a psychoactive chemical that can be found in cannabis."

710 is celebrated on 10th July (7/10) though its not as popular as 420. The number 710 looks like the word "OIL" when rotated 180 degrees.

12/12

Shortform for "12 hours of light and 12 hours of darkness". It simply means to have your LED grow lights turned on for 12 straight hours, then off for the next 12 hours.

18/6

This term is a shorthand for 18 hours of light and 6 hours of darkness. Just like 12/12, this means to have your grow light turn on for 18 hours and off for the next 6 straight hours.

24/0

24/0 means 24 hours of light and no darkness. This is an extreme version of 18/6 that tries to use all the hours throughout marijuana lifecycle to maximize plant growth. Mostly growers stick with 18/6 for optimum cannabis growth.

Adult-use

Also called recreational use. This term is used in the US, only for the states where marijuana is legal to consume and purchase(only for 21+ years people). Adult-use can be called the opposite of medical use.

Autoflowering

Autoflowering strains will start maturing and making buds on their own without any change in light schedule. Autoflowering buds are essentially immune to problems arising from the improper light schedule.

Aeroponics

A type of hydroponic cannabis cultivation where roots dangle directly into the air and nutrient salts mixed with water are misted occasionally on the roots.

Albino buds

Buds that are white in color are referred to as albino buds by growers. However, many growers say "Albino buds" are actually normal buds that have been light bleached.

It is very easy to find the light bleached bud as the albino looking spots are always near the top of the plant where the light is most intense.

Alcohol extraction

The process to extract the essential oils and trichomes from cannabis.

Access point

It is a particular authorized location from where medical marijuana patients can purchase medical marijuana.

Acapulco gold

It was first found in the United States in 1964. It is an inherited variety of cannabis and originally grown in mountains of western mexico.

Agitation

The process of harvesting trichomes from marijuana flowers through physical actions.

Amotivational syndrome

A kind of medical syndrome found in cannabis consumers. In this, lack of motivation is experienced.

Anti-cannabis organizations

Some groups fighting against cannabis authorization are called anti-cannabis organizations. Some of these are Abbott laboratories, D.A.R.E, Drugfree.org, and many more are there.

Aquaponics

This method combines both aquaculture(raising fish) with hydroponics(growing cannabis in water). The fishes and their environment are used to create the nutrients required by the cannabis plant.

BHO

It stands for Butane hash oil. BHO is an extract created using butane as a solvent, which results in a strong and waxy substance with a high THC level. Usually, it is used for dabbing.

Butane is an explosive substance when mixed with air. While making BHO, Cannabis growers have accidentally set fires and even blew up their homes. For this reason, BHO has a bad reputation, but it doesn't affects its popularity.

Backcross

It is a practice of breeding a cannabis plant with one of its parents to inherit and strengthen a particular trait.

For better understanding, suppose one plant has strong anti-anxiety effects. You can breed that plant with its mother to make it more likely that successive generations will have the same anti-anxiety effects.

Base nutrients

Companies sell base nutrients, just like supplements. Base nutrients fulfill all the mineral requirements of a plant to get the best harvest.

You can grow the best quality buds and yield with just base nutrients, and no supplements are required.

Bleaching

Chlorophyll is what makes plants green and helps in photosynthesis. But when the plant is stressed or getting excessive sunlight, the chlorophyll gets dried, and color fades away. This fading is referred to as "Bleaching".

Blunt

Blunts are quite similar to joints. While joints are typically used thin paper, blunt uses thick papers meant for cigars.

Bong

It is an apparatus used for smoking marijuana. It includes a chamber that contains water for smoke filtration. Bongs are typically made from glass, but they can also be made from plastic, acrylic, or even ice.

Botrytis

Botrytis, also named "Bud rot", is a kind of disease that can affect cannabis and other plants, including grapes. That's why it is also termed grape disease.

The plant disease is irreversible, and any bud that gets infected is no longer suitable for consumption.

Bowl

Bowl is part of smoking equipment that can hold marijuana. A bowl piece is generally removable on a bong/vaporizer stand.

Bract

The bract is the scientific term for "calyx" (the part of a cannabis plant - photo & diagram).

Bhang

Bhang is a mixture made by drying, grinding, and soaking the buds of the cannabis plant. It has been used in food and drinks since 1000BC in ancient India. It is a traditional edible preparation of cannabis.

Bubbleponics

It is an advanced version of deep water culture. In bubbleponics, cannabis plant roots are immersed in water, and "top-feed" is added to bring nutrient water directly to the plant roots.

Bud

It is a slang term for cannabis flowers. Growers use this term interchangeably with "flowers" or "weed".

Buds refer to the final product that can be harvested and used for recreational and medical purposes as they contain the highest amount of active cannabinoids.

Budder

Budder is the trade name for the concentrated paste extracted from cannabis. This concentration is created by blasting the raw material with butane, or CO2.

Budtender

A customer service professional who can help you to purchase the marijuana product you are looking for.

Buzz

Slang term used for a pleasing euphoric effect caused by weed consumption.

Bioavailability

The portion of cannabis dose that can be absorbed.

Blasting

Blasting is the process which includes extraction of concentrates from the cannabis flower.

Blaze

It is an act of smoking weed to reach a "high" state.

Blazed

It is a result of smoking cannabis with high THC.

Boof

"Boof weed" refers to low-grade cannabis.

Borosilicate

Borosilicate is a glass used to make smoking pipes. Borosilicate can tolerate high-temperature variations and does not expand as much as other glass when heated, so there are very low chances of joints or accessories cracking when the flame is applied.

CB1 receptor

Cannabinoid receptor that is located in the central nervous system that can be activated by cannabinoids.

Cannabinoids

Cannabinoids are the chemical compounds that are present in cannabis. These chemical compounds are responsible for various effects caused by cannabis from making "high" to pain relief.

There are around 85 known cannabinoids found in cannabis.

CBD

CBD stands for cannabidiol, one of the cannabinoids present in cannabis plants. It is used as a medical marijuana in treatment of pain, inflammation, and anxiety. CBD can also minimize the psychoactive effects of THC.

CO2 Oil

It is a naturally occurring substance which can be liquified when pressure is applied. It is a natural occurring substance and leaves no residue, making CO2 oil pure concentrates beneficial for medical purposes.

Cannabis

Cannabis is the scientific name for marijuana. It is used as a drug for medical or personal reasons.

Three known species of cannabis are: Cannabis sativa, Cannabis Indica, and cannabis ruderalis. Cannabis sativa and indica are used for both medical and recreational use. Ruderalis is rarely cultivated because of its low THC content.

Carb

It is a hole in a handpipe that regulates airflow inside the pipe. While flaming the cannabis, the carb is kept covered and while inhaling, people uncover the carb to pull fresh air and clear the chamber.

Cashed

Also called "caching", it's when you finish a bowl and all that is left are the ashes.

Cherried

When the bowl gets ignited and no longer needs lighter.

Clone

Clone cannabis plant is a genetic copy of a mother plant. A clone is a young female cannabis with stable genetics. Most growers choose to raise clones instead of seeds because they don't want to get risk with plants that are and have poor genetic properties.

Concentrates

Cannabis concentrates are actually a concentrate of resin gland found on cannabis flowers.

Cannabinol

Mildly psychoactive substance found in cannabis.

Cannabis culture

The social atmosphere associated with consumption of cannabis.

Cannabis flower essential oil

It is used for medical purposes and has little or no psychoactive effects. The cannabis oil is extracted from marijuana leaves and flowers.

Cannabis drinks expo

It is a B2B cannabis infused drinks event. In the event, the pioneers of the cannabis industry meet , talk, discuss about the future of cannabis and its drinks. This event takes place in San Francisco and Chicago.

Psychoactive products made from cannabis - bhang, charas, honey oil, shatter, wax, tincture of cannabis, hashish etc.

Cannabaceae

It is a family to which cannabis belongs.

Cannabutter

Cannabutter is a butter that is infused with cannabis, typically used for making edibles.

Chanvre

French name of cannabis.

Chillum

A traditional clay pipe for smoking cannabis.

Chronic

Chronic is a slang word used to refer to high-grade cannabis.

Chemotype

It is a term for a plant type including cannabis, that produces a distinct combination of chemical compounds.

Cola

The topmost flower cluster of a female cannabis. In easy words, It is a topmost flower bud on a cannabis plant.

Crutch

It is an extra folded paper or a piece of cardboard at the tip of the joint, that will make contact with your mouth.

Circ Perc

It is a series of rings with spacing between them. The spacing of the perc helps in intense filtration while smoking.

Curing

In the curing process, moisture is slowly and systematically removed from cannabis flower in order to enhance a flower smell, flavour, and potency.

Dab/Dabbing

It is a method of consuming cannabis concentrate. For detailed understanding, We can say that dabbing is a slang term used to refer to the dose of BHO received through combustion and inhalation.

Dank

A slang term for potent cannabis flowers. Can also be referred to as smell of cannabis.

Usually, this word is used to describe sticky, high quality cannabis with strong aroma.

Diffusion

This process occurs while smoking or vaping marijuana using water pipes. In diffusion, smoke or vapor spread throughout the water, which helps to remove ash, cinders, tar, etc. The process makes weed easy to inhale.

Disc Perc

Disc perc is a flat layer of glass that separates the water pipe body and several holes.

Dispensary

The dispensary is a safe access location to purchase cannabis or cannabis products.

Downstem

A downstem is a tube that carries smoke/vapor from the bowl of the bong into the water. Most downstem have some cut or perc at the end. These holes in the downstem create the diffusion of the smoke or vapor through the water.

Dugout

It is a two-chambered wooden box that can hold both your dry flowers as well as a one-hitter pipe. They are popular for their convenience and portability.

Drug Czar

Usually, at a national level, if a person is put in charge of drug policy for some region.

Drug paraphernalia

The equipment used for growing, processing, consuming, or concealing cannabis or cannabis extracts. It includes bong, bowl, hookah, oil rig, chalice, chillum, etc.

Drug war

Drug war refers to the war fought over control of drug commerce.

It is a slang term referred to cannabis in africa.

Decarboxylation

This process occurs when cannabis is exposed to heat.

Decarboxylation is the process of converting acidic cannabinoids produced by plants into their more bioavailable form.

This process helps to convert THCA(cannabinoid in raw cannabis with no psychoactive effects) into THC(Chemical compound that produces “high”) and CBCA(cannabichromenic acid) into CBC.

A slang word for cannabis cigarette or "joint" or marijuana cigarette.

Defoliate

Defoliate means to remove leaves from the plant.

Defoliation

This technique is used by growers to improve yield. Growers defoliate plants once or more especially in the flowering stage to get bigger, longer and denser resulting buds.

Drainage

A medium that allows water to pass easily and quickly is said to be a "good drainage".

Droopy

When cannabis leaves start pointing down as if they are too tired to stand up. Plants drop their leaves down to sleep but usually droopiness is the result of underwatering the plant(Droopiness can also be caused in hydroponics when roots get root rot).

Dry Sifting

Dry sifting is the process of collecting hash/kief/trichomes by moving dry marijuana over a screen.

Dry Sift

The resulting piles of trichomes extracted by the process of dry sifting.
